Surrender an Animal

We do not always have space in our rescue for new animals, and we therefore do not guarantee that we will have space for your animal. You must recognize that we work entirely out of foster homes, and we cannot force our volunteers to take in more animals than they can handle. If you need to surrender an animal, please fill out our surrender application here.  The application gives us the details we need to determine if we can take your pet.

Because all of our animals are "prey" animals, we do not take in any predatory animals such as dogs, cats, snakes, etc. Taking in new and strange predators would upset all of the prey animals in our care.  Please do not ask us to take dogs, cats, snakes, or other predatory animals.

If we do have space to take your animal, you must provide us with several things in order for us to accept the animal:

  • Cage and all accessories
  • One medium or large size bag of appropriate bedding (CareFresh, Aspen, Yesterday's News, or even shredded newspaper; almost anything other than pine or cedar)
  • At least two cups of whatever food was being fed to the animal previously
  • Monetary donation (see below)

In addition, you MUST drive the animal to whichever foster home is willing to take in the animal. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to pick animals up.

Minimum required monetary donations are listed by animal below. All fees are per animal:

  • Neutered/Spayed Rabbits: $75
  • Unsterilized Rabbits: Exact cost of sterilization ($105 males $125 females)
  • Guinea Pigs: $20
  • Hamsters/Gerbils/Mice: $10 (sometimes less for multiple animals, depending on circumstances)
  • Chinchillas: $30
  • Birds: Depends on breed--call or email for specifics

Again, these fees are necessary, as we do not have the money to take in surrendered animals otherwise. Very rarely do we make exceptions when it comes to surrender fees.
